Oh my, the explanation provided by Letteman on national TV was creepy assisted by the nervous laughs from the audience. At points during his confession people actually applauded - why? Did the applause sign go up? The full Letterman confession:
The extortionist appears to be Robert Halderman, a producer for CBS' 48 Hours. I wonder how much longer he will hold down that job? According to RadarOnline.com, Halderman lived with one of the woman (Stephanie Birkitt, a former intern) who Letterman was involved with. The affair happened a long time ago, before his son Harry was born, and before he got married, but he was living with his wife to be at the time. Birkitt appears in the skit below (Dave calls her Vicki). Letterman has had numerous relationships with staff. For years he was dating former head writer Merrill Markoe. His current wife was once a staff member. Supposedly Halderman is strapped for cash, but extortion?
